Turmeric from Meghalaya’s Jaintia Hills
The Lakadong area of Meghalaya’s Jaintia Hills is known for turmeric with a curcumin content well above typical Indian turmeric (published figures range from about 6.8% to over 7%), which gives a deeper colour and stronger flavour. Most of it is grown by smallholder farmers, largely without chemical fertilisers.
“Lakadong Turmeric” is a registered Geographical Indication in India. Bibhakar Spices and its supplier are not registered authorised users of this GI; the name on this page describes where the turmeric is sourced, not GI certification.
